Let’s be real: you windows can get rather filthy all-year-round (even in the snow). If you’re like most homeowners, then you usually tend to gravitate towards commercial home cleaners — which can be filled with hundreds of harsh chemicals, making them one of the largest contributors to indoor pollution. Additionally, these chemical cleaners can be costly and usually have a strong, unpleasant odor. Luckily, with just a few natural ingredients, you can create your own cost-effective, eco-friendly glass cleaners:

Option 1: Best used for windows facing the sun because the vinegar will leave a streak-free shine.

  • 2 cups of water (filtered or distilled is best because it won’t leave streaks)
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 10 drops of essential oil (optional – but it helps to dilute the vinegar smell)

Option 2: Best used for bathrooms and other damp areas because rubbing alcohol is great for killing mold and mildew.

  • 1½ cup of rubbing alcohol
  • 1½ cup of filtered water
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar

Option 3: The grease fighting power of dish soap makes this recipe perfect for glass table tops that attract greasy fingerprints.

  • 1½ gallon of water
  • 1½ cup of ammonia
  • 16 oz. rubbing alcohol
  • 1 teaspoon of all natural liquid dish soap

Instructions: Regardless of which option you choose, mix the ingredients together in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture generously on your glass surface and then wipe it clean with a microfiber towel.
