Spring is on the way and it’s time to start preparing your windows for the season! In addition to spring, your kids will want to play outside in the backyard — and chances are they’re running outdoors having a blast with their friends in the warm weather. But if you own a glass sliding door, then you know you’re in for a bit of trouble. From running in and out of the house, your glass is bound to get marked up with fingerprints from your little loved ones. Don’t fret, though! We’ve got your simple cleanup steps:
Step 1. Prep the screen door
Before erasing fingerprints for your glass sliding doors, attack the dust on your screen door. We recommend you use a feather duster to carefully wipe away dust and dirt. This will also help avoid dust from getting stuck to your glass doors after taking the time to clean them.
Step 2. Start with water
Once you dust off your screen door, apply water to your glass doors. Sometimes smudges can be cleaned by soaking a sponge or washcloth in cold water and wiping it away. Feel free to mix 1¼ teaspoon of mild soap in the water. If you still spy fingerprints, try this next method.
Step 3. Apply vinegar
Vinegar is a natural cleaner that you probably already have in your cupboard. It’s also chemical free and doesn’t give off a harsh odor. Mix 1¼ cup of white wine vinegar with one gallon of water, soak a sponge or cloth in the mixture and wipe away those stubborn prints.
Step 4. Try Windex
If all else fails, turn to your commercial cleaner. Windex tends to eliminate fingerprints and dust better than other cleaners on the market, but it can also leave a film if you don’t swipe the glass properly. That being said, we recommend using a squeegee at the end of the cleanup process.
